PURCHASE, NY, (NOVEMBER, 08 2008) -– National Realty & Development Corp. a leading real estate development and management firm, recently hosted a groundbreaking ceremony at CooperTowne Center, a 385,000-square-foot Greyfields Redevelopment project that will revitalize the former Lions Head Plaza located at 711 East Evesham Avenue in Somerdale, NJ and the surrounding area.
"The CooperTowne Center project sets the stage for how revitalization should be done in New Jersey," said John Orrico, President of NRDC. “We have worked with the communities to design architecturally attractive elements to the center that create a traditional Northeast downtown look and feel. In the end, we were able to take an economically blighted site and create a balance of public and private accommodations, something that is not done very frequently, and we are thrilled to set this landmark project into motion."
The redevelopment plan for CooperTowne Center calls for a total makeover and the downsizing of the existing 235,000-square-foot shopping center to 209,000 square feet with the addition of a 203,000 square foot Wal-Mart. The new shopping center will have architecturally attractive facades and significant land use improvements such as a tree-lined grand entrance, gazebos, a public plaza to accommodate civic ceremonies, wide pedestrian friendly sidewalks for outdoor dining, landscaped garden beds outside of the storefronts and parallel parking to enhance the main street feel.
Located just 10 miles southeast of Philadelphia, CooperTowne is easily accessible to Routes 30 and 544 as well as the Philadelphia Speedline, a rapid transit system that runs between Philadelphia and Camden County. It will be anchored by Wal-Mart, which will have a complementing facade that will frame the parking area and renovated center, and include additional tenants such as Cinemark Theatres and L.A. Fitness. Plans also call for the development of a pad site along White Horse Pike and Evesham Avenue, which will likely attract a bank or restaurant, as well as an affordable housing and adult community on adjacent parcels.
