National Realty & Development Corp. said 24 Hour Fitness has signed a lease for 37,000 square feet. It has become the latest retailer to join the 340,000-square-foot town center on Route 35 at the intersection of Kings Highway East.
Middletown planners approved the Shoppes at Middletown earlier this past summer. NRDC said the center will blend grocery, recreation, fitness, specialty boutique and restaurants with outdoor dining. Construction will commence in the spring of 2020, the developer said.
The developer has leased more than 230,000 square feet already, signing Wegmans and CMX Cinemas as anchor tenants. Other tenants so far include Pets Supplies Plus, Circus Wines, Beer and Spirits, and Nails Spa & Beyond.
"We have always envisioned The Shoppes at Middletown to house a diverse roster of offerings that will significantly enhance the local retail environment and provide a downtown gathering place,” said John G. Orrico, president at NRDC, in a statement.
"A five-star fitness company such as 24 Hour Fitness will bring an exciting energy that has been missing from this part of the Route 35 corridor, and will serve as the perfect complement to Wegmans, CMX Cinemas, and the lively, walkable atmosphere that will begin to emerge next year.”
This will be the first 24 Hour Fitness location in Monmouth County. The chain has 11 locations in New Jersey.
