ShopRite will fill about 300 jobs before it opens its new store in Shrewsbury later this year.
The new 77,500-square-foot store, currently under construction on Shrewsbury Avenue, is located at Shrewsbury Plaza. The site was formerly a three-building office complex.
The new jobs include bakery and deli clerks, bookkeeper, grocery and pharmacy clerks and customer service representatives. Those interested can apply online at www.shoprite.com/career-opportunities/.
The store, operated by Saker ShopRites, will include a from-scratch bake shop with fresh bread and special occasion cakes; a meat department with trained butchers; a full service seafood department with daily fresh-catch deliveries; a floral shop; and a full-service deli with prepared foods.
The new ShopRite also will have a large selection of organic and natural products and fresh produce.
"We are very excited to extend our service to Shrewsbury, in the heart of Monmouth County, with the opening of this state-of-the-art shopping destination," said Richard Saker, president of Saker ShopRites Inc."The new ShopRite of Shrewsbury will be a 'World Class' store dedicated to providing low prices and outstanding service to the local community."
The new store also will have a pharmacy, in-store cafe, a full-service catering department and ShopRite From Home, which allows customers to shop the store online and either pick up groceries or have them delivered.
There will also be freshly-prepared hot entrees, sushi, a cold buffet, olive bar, cheeses and made-to-order sandwiches.
The new supermarket will add even more competition to an area that already has a few supermarket choices.
Acme is across the street on Shrewsbury Avenue in Tinton Falls and Trader Joe's sits on Route 35 nearby. Aldi has a store on Route 36 in West Long Branch. Lidl, a German discount supermarket making a push in the eastern United States, is under construction on Route 35 in Eatontown.
